Franciscan Ware is a popular brand of dinnerware and art ware, with patterns including El Patio, Coronado, Metropolitan, Apple, and Desert Rose. The Franciscan Ceramics Archive includes information on the company's dinnerware and art ware patterns and lines, designers, marks, and glazes.

Franciscan Ware was produced by the Gladding, McBean & Co. company, which was established in Lincoln, California, in 1873. The company began producing dinnerware and art ware in 1934, with new patterns and lines added after World War II to meet consumer demand. In 1962, Gladding, McBean & Co. merged with Lock Joint Pipe Company to form the International Pipe and Ceramics Corporation, later renamed Interpace.

Interpace hired the well-known California artist Millard Sheets as a design advisor for its Franciscan Ceramics Division. Sheets directed the hiring of ceramists to create innovative tableware, tile, and tile murals. The largest tile murals designed by Interpace were for the Hilton Rainbow Towers in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Blue Heaven pattern was a promotional design produced by the Royal China Company of Sebring, Ohio, in the 1960s. The company offered the dishes as promotions in grocery store premium catalogues. The set typically includes three 10" dinner plates, three 6.5" small plates, three 5.5" small bowls, one 9" serving bowl, and one 11.5" platter with handles. In 1937, turquoise was added to the line and it became available in turquoise, cobalt blue, and yellow until 1969.

The vintage Fiesta produced during this time is highly prized and features an array of shapes and glaze colours. The current Fiesta line contains some shapes produced from the original moulds, with slight modifications due to the change to a fully vitrified (harder) clay body. The line has been reintroduced with many new shapes designed for modern-day use, and like the original line, it features an evolving number of glaze colours.
